Finally, Christmas 2014 is Officially Over at My Home!

After eight full days of carefully packing up all my Christmas water globes, large Santa and Snowmen figurines, other battery-operated items, three Christmas trees and their decorations, outdoor lights and tinsel, Christmas dishes and tablecloths, candy cans, and who knows what else, Christmas 2014 is past!  In addition, I spent one entire Sunday afternoon writing Thank-You notes for all those hostess gifts that I found after everyone left the parties.

The entire month of December was so much fun for me (the parties anyway) and for everyone!  I am so glad I was able to have so many friends here to share the real joys of Christmas, but I was really exhausted last night at 8 pm  when I finally got those boxed Christmas trees into the back of the sun room closet!  I stood in the middle of the sun room and shouted, "It's done and I survived!" Where were my grandsons when I needed them?----!

Of course, not everyone brought a hostess gift, thank God!  Rest assured I announced to everyone that anyone bearing a gift at the door next year will  be denied entry!  I love the beautiful gifts as well as the givers, but I have way too much Christmas "stuff" already! Ruth of Country Log Cabins can attest to that!  I think I've told you I know why they do bring those special things,  They all love to see them, punch the buttons and watch them sing or dance, and then the givers go home and that's the end of it for them.  They all know I will pack it up, store it, and get everything out again next year; they will come and enjoy everything; then again they will go home, and I'll be the one who has to again pack it up and find a place to store it all until next year, when they come back bearing more gifts to play with, and again, I have to pack and store again, only more "stuff".  (Over and over!)  Ah, I just as well admit it; I love it all, and they all know it!   *giggle*  And I have mailed thank-you notes to everyone!  They all are now calling me "The Party Gal"!  They ought to realize I'm too tired to party for a while!

I rested today between church services morning and evening; just kicked back and did nothing really, and it felt really good.

Unfortunately tomorrow brings on a new set of activities, and taking care of my year-end stuff.  I'm not looking forward to that at all, but it must be done!  Taxes and all that stuff is not nearly as much fun as Christmas!

I'm hoping to learn a couple of new computer programs, but just haven't slowed down enough to even install them yet.   Maybe later this week I can get that started.

I've not made any real plans for my 2015 quilting projects.  I need to make four or five throws for gifts, and I want to get all those Civil War blocks together, and hopefully quilt it.  I also hope to at least get started on my One Block Wonder.  I bought the fabric early last year, and haven't touched it since!  That's going to be a real challenge for me!  What I need to do most is get my place and personal matters in better order, so I may not get as much quilting done as I would like for a while.  I'll keep trying though.

After hearing from Sandy after a long time, I looked back over our old list of APQ bloggers and was reminded of many of the original gang who have not been heard from in a long time.  Hearing from all of you again would certainly help to make the New Year happy!  I even got out my little spool quilt I made with all your names and blog names, and thought about each one of you!   If you want to read an old nostalgic post and see a picture of that quilt, go to here and scroll down.  (If you really read all of that post, doesn't it bring a tear to your eye?  ----- Well, sort of??? *giggle* )  What I wrote way back when, still is true!  Agree?

Maybe next time I'll have a picture or two --- maybe!

Again, I hope all of you have a Happy, Prosperous, and Rewarding New Year!

---"Love"

  1. All you work was worth it in the end, wasn't it? I'm happy you had a wonderful month of December and have survived! I still have my Christmas decorations up and hopefully will get them put away this week. We have all been sick for the last week and my sister is leaving today. DH was the last one to catch it and he had a 102 degree fever yesterday. Then I clicked on the link to the spool quilt, I was denied access to see it! Good luck with your taxes, etc. I dread that chore.

  2. Eight days of packing up? I think I could pack my whole house twice in that time if I worked hard enough! You must have a LOT more Christmas stuff that you shared in a blog post last year (or was it the year before?)... But I'm glad to hear you survived and hope you can get your non-quilty stuff in order quickly so you can get on to quilting sooner. (I know I have a few of those things to do myself, but am taking a true break with my days off from work and will get back to the real world tomorrow.)

  3. It sounds like you had a really fun Christmas this year. Lots of parties to share with friends is the best! Get rested up and I will be waiting to see what you are working on this year!

  4. I am exhausted after reading your post. I am not sure exactly what the One Block Wonder quilt is about, but I am really looking forward to seeing your progress. Perhaps it will be my inspiration to start something new.

  5. You are a Christmas treasure yourself to go to so much trouble just to make the season so very special for your friends and family. You certainly deserve a rest! Luckily, this quilting gig is for fun not work so you don't need to feel obliged to be churning out quilts. I well remember how welcome I was made to feel by the old APQ bloggers when I first made contact. Your companion quilt to the Swap Block quilt and the post you wrote were a nice addition to the swap. There is another quilt of yours that has special memories for us...
