On Friday night, February 5, about midnite, (the next night after my last post), I had to answer a call from Mother Nature. I turned a quarter turn as I pulled up my PJ's, and lost my balance totally! I fell backwards full length over the edge of my bathtub, with my head down in the tub and my feet bent under me outside the tub. Even as a child, I could not do backbends, but I did one that night. I thought I would die from the pain in my back and ribs near my waist. I finally managed to crawl to the bed where I stayed until morning. I called a friend to take me to the ER where it was determined I had a compression fracture of my T-ll vertebrae. Thank goodness, no ribs were broken, but they were badly bruised.
These injuries, of course, meant all previously scheduled therapy and doctor's appointments had to be delayed, and are re-scheduled for later this month. My back is getting better, but as those severe pains are diminishing, I'm rediscovering the effects of the stroke back in December in that my right leg isn't wanting to function properly. No doubt that had continued all the time, but the severe back pain had pushed that problem into the background for a while. I am hoping all this will get over with before much longer. I don't like hurting all the time, and not being able to drive. Again, my son and friends have taken me the few places I've needed to be. (I haven't even started my car in two months!) I'm so glad I love staying at home, because that's about all I've done since before Christmas!
Okay, enough of those problems!
In my last post, I mentioned that I had a few fabrics for donation projects. I sent the guild fabrics back just like I had brought them home. This past week I finally got started on the church group fabric.
I decided it would be a good opportunity to try some free motion quilting on the printed panel. I creased the open places into 1" squares, and then got started around the printed bunnies and flowers. Then there were days with interruptions, but I finally finished the thing last night, I think my third finish for the year.
I decided to use the free motion foot rather than the walking foot on the straight lines, so some of them really are a little wobbly, but hey, it's finished! The sad thing is I doubt the auction will be before Easter!

Tomorrow I hope to start on another baseball pillow with the scraps left over. When my son saw that Texas Ranger fabric, he asked me to make a pillow for his pastor's wife who is a Ranger fan. I hope I can get that done with not too much trouble. Then I'm going to start on a project for me that I've been studying.
Doctor's appointments start up again this week. I'll be so glad when all that is over and I can get back to normal, whatever that is going to be for me. One thing is for sure: I'll be moving much slower for a while. However, I am getting better at handling my walking cane. I'm learning not to even try to walk across the room without it! Hopefully that will change someday!
Keep showing your pretty projects! They make me smile!

Love, I'm so sorry to hear of your fall. It sounds so painful and I'm glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. Hope to hear you are all healed soon. Your bunnies are adorable. It is a cute panel and your quilting look great to me. Pressing the quilting lines is a great idea, I never thought of that! I'll be looking forward to the baseball pillow. Enjoy your stitching time!
ReplyDeleteThe table runner is adorable and even if the auction is after Easter, someone will surely want to get it for next easter. I'm amazed that you are getting back to sewing, but you probably consider it therapy and like lots of us, you NEED to do it. Keep hanging in there!
ReplyDeleteI never was good at backbends either and I don't want to master them in the manner you took with your fall. I'm glad you're getting used to the cane (as a friend told me, sometimes wielding it alone makes people nicer because you can whack them with it if they're not...) and hope you're on the mend. Have someone start your car every so often, though, to keep it running well. And take care of yourself! Sew, sew, sew! The bunnies are cute and could hang out for a while in the spring, too!
