Underground Railroad Makes Connection

I can hardly believe it has been eleven days since my last post.  I have been able to read most of the blogs I follow regularly, and that has helped me maintain my sanity.

Today I finally got the Underground Railroad quilt top halves together.  Borders still have to be added.  It's not pinned straight to the design wall, but here it is:  (Please excuse the fuzzy picture!)

I did get to the quilt store for more blue and brown border fabrics, and before I could get them washed, I lost the two yards of blue fabric!  The GS's and I have literally turned my house upside down, but that twenty-dollar bill fabric is no where to be found!  I think it may have been put in the trash by mistake and hauled away the day after I bought it!  It was the same color blue as the cornerstones, but a different print.  I was planning on making half-squares with it and this brown:  (The blue in the picture is the cornerstone fabric; I guess I could use that if I don't find the other.)

I'm not really too surprised that I've misplaced it;  there has been a lot happening inside my walls lately.  I did go back to the store on Monday, and as you might suspect, the whole bolt of the missing blue has been sold!  I'll have to find something else somewhere.  The sad part is I don't really remember what it was, so I can't find the exact thing online.  I just know I really liked it.   The quilt shop didn't have anything else I liked in place of it. I'll just have to wait until I can find something else.   I would not be able to cut it this week anyway!   Maybe it will show up someday!

My GS#1 had surgery on both feet one week ago, and has been incapacitated and on my couch most of the time.  He is improving very well, but still has to have bandages changed daily.  He still has one final exam to take, scheduled about the middle of July, and he has been studying for that.  His younger brother, GS#3, is here also, doing a summer school class online, and that will continue until the latter part of July.  There goes all my free time!  I had forgotten how much teen-age boys eat, and how many dirty clothes they have!

By the time we get the stitches out of feet, and studies over, I should be ready to hang out my shingle as either a nurse or a teacher!  Add to that more than 10 days of over 100 degree heat, and one might assume I'm about ready to run away!    I fear it is going to be a long, hot summer for the three of us!  However, we have had our good moments together too!

I have the three patriotic blocks made for MY wall hanging, but they are not together yet; that's on hold too.  Maybe this week-end I can get that top together.

Reading all your quilting blogs, when I can manage to get to the computer,  has helped my spirit, so keep them coming!  I will be back; I promise!

  1. Well, "Love", it sounds like you have your hands full. I don't think I have ever lost fabric -- how frustrating! Enjoy your time with your grandsons.

The quilt looks great, by the way.

  2. Oh, Love, the blocks are lovely. If you don't find the new fabric, use the cornerstone fabric if you have enough. It will tie everything together and look fabulous. Hope your GS#1 is feeling better. How come the mobile GS#3 is not waiting on you? He should! And he should be doing the laundry, too!

  5. Oh my! I wish you could remember the fabric because you know you'd have all our eyes out looking for it! But having thrown it out? Disaster! Maybe it will turn up. The quilt looks great so far. And I'm impressed with you having your grandsons staying with you - they'll have fond memories for the rest of their lives.

  7. The quilt top is looking good. Too bad you misplaced the fabric. Perhaps it will turn up again once you stop looking. That's how lost things get found in my house!

  8. Oh Love, Sorry about your fabric. I think I have lost something every day this week. I do really love how your quilt is coming together.

I hope you have fun with the GS over the summer. Hope #1 heals quickly. Two teenagers in the house is a lot when you aren't used to them being there round the clock.

    Good luck and keep sewing.

  9. The quilt top looks wonderful. I think I have been sailing in the same boat, but I have lost my mind. ;)

I have a t-shirt with this saying "I have gone to find myself, if I get back before I return, keep me here". I'm thinking I should start wearing it again. ;)

  10. Your quilt is looking so good! Sorry the fabric is missing, I hope it turns up somewhere eventually! Sounds like you have been really busy, too. Hope GS#1 heals fast and everything goes well and GS#2 does well with his studies. If you can get some quiet time, sew to keep your sanity!
