I spent a bit of time making my final determination of whom I will be voting for tomorrow in the Primary Election. It seems that so many people do not realize that really voting in the Primary Election is very important. That's where the candidate, for any Party and any office, is determined for the General Election in November. I always spend time studying everything I can find on each person on the ballot, and then make my "cheat sheet" to take to the poll so I'll remember who I want to vote for. I'm sure I don't always make the right decision, but I just want to be as an informed voter as I can. At some point tomorrow, I will vote. I have a few friends who don't ever vote in the Primary. I always tell them, "If you don't vote, you have no right to gripe about the outcome!"
After making those decisions, I called my quilting buddy who has the same Janome I have; I told her mine is very sick and just must go to the doctor soon. She said hers needs to be serviced too, and we agreed that she will drive us to Fort Worth on Wednesday morning so we can leave our machines. I'm so glad she wanted to take hers too; I'll buy her lunch for taking me along. Hopefully both machines will sew much better when we get them back the next week.
After lunch I decided to give my machine a going over. I cleaned the area under the bobbin, filled a new bobbin, put in a new needle, and gave it a test run. It seemed to be sewing much better, but I didn't sew over any seams in the test.
I so wanted to make another Moda Blockhead Block, so I dug out more scraps, pressed them, and started cutting out Block No. 45. (Just three more to go after that!) I cut everything and laid it all out, hoping to avoid the problem encountered day before yesterday. It all looked like it would fit together. I even decided to fussy cut the four large flying geese. Have you ever done that? It was my first time, but I just wanted to try it with the fabric I had chosen. It worked! I was pleased.
I was a little worried as I began sewing the pieces together, wondering if the machine would skip stitches like it did yesterday. Guess what! It didn't skip a single stitch all day, but it will still be going to the doctor! The block went together easily, and I really think maybe it is one of my favorites. 'Almost' every point is there, and in the right place, and on the first try! I did good today, if I do say so myself! Maybe I won't have to give up quilting after all!

Finally, this post has gone together easily too, and I'm just about ready to call it a "good" day, and go to bed. Hopefully the doctor visit tomorrow will go as well as today has gone for me. I'm really not expecting a problem with anything there.
Hope you've had a good day too!

Glad your day went well.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very pretty block. I don't know that I have seen fussy cut flying geese before. They turned out really well!
You've got some beauties there, skipped stitches or not!! I live in North Richland Hills and wonder where you are if you're taking machines to FW. Hope they're in and out quickly so not much sewing time is lost.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a better day. The new block is a beauty. I have to admit that I had more than a few problems with some of the blocks. Adding perhaps 1/8 of an inch to some of the smaller pieces when cutting really helped. I would rather trim a block than discard it. Good luck with the doctor!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we just have to have a bad day to appreciate the good ones, right? The block is very pretty and good for you with the fussy cutting. I've been doing a fair amount of that with my rainbow scrap challenge quilt - some with better results than others...but it's a learning process. I hope you and your machine both get good news from your respective doctors.
ReplyDeleteDeciding it will be a good goes a long way in making it so! Seems the cleaning really helped with the stitch issue. Glad it is working better and a good going over won't hurt. Hope you get your machine back soon. Your new block looks great, I love the fussy cut geese. It's great you are doing research before heading to vote, more people need to care as much as you do. Enjoy your sewing time!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that I haven't read your last 2 posts until today! I didn't really have a busy week scheduled, but things seemed to happen anyway and I was busy doing something every day and not reading posts! You are putting me to shame with your Moda Blocks!! At least this week I got all my blocks out and the instructions sheets too. I put them all in order and wrote the number on the back of each with a pigma pen. Then I marked a check in the corner of all the instruction sheets that have been completed. Some of them have 2 checks because I had decided to make 2 of each block. As of now, I haven't made 2 of all of them and I don't really think I will need that many blocks. However, I am NOT going to make any more of the appliqué blocks and will substitute a duplicate of another block for them. I really don't like them as much. I still have quite a few blocks to make. I really LOVE your block #45!!! It is gorgeous! Forgive me for not commenting on your previous post - I thought I would just comment on one post and that would have to cover it. It is 8:25 PM here and I am just about fixin' to get ready for bed - as I am an early to bed kind of girl. It's getting to the point that I just can't wait to go to bed! The problem is, I also wake up super early and then I can't get back to sleep, so I just get up and read or sew. It is a good time for me as I am alone and it is quiet before DH gets up. Good night, Love!
