SOME Piecing Progress, and Feeling SOME Better

Saturday my son, his wife, and his two sons were here for lunch, and even though I was weary from cooking all morning, and also dealing with a plumber betore they got here, I really enjoyed seeing all of them at the same time, first time since Christmas.  My oldest GS turned 25 on last Wednesday, but he lives about two hours away, so we don't get to see him as often as his brother who turned 23 in January.  We never had his BD dinner,  so I just declared lunch in honor of both of them and fixed their favorites:  chicken spaghetti, English pea salad (made with frozen peas), cantelope, and that Yummy Chocolate Pudding Dessert, with pecan crumb pastry, cream cheese, and of course, Cool Whip on top.  They all loved it!

After they all left, I washed all the dishes and straightened the place up a bit.  Next I decided to sew the blue cornerstones onto the striped sashings for my Moda Block Heads blocks.  I'm glad I noticed the stripe is uneven, and I was able to get all the stripes going the same direction before I sewed the blue squares on.  Well.....I have to admit I did have to rip one of them off.  Then I got them all turned the same direction before I started sewing again!

I didn't feel like going to church this morning; just didn't want everyone looking at me with all my coughing and nose-blowing.  I had a very quiet day at home alone, with only three short phone calls.

This afternoon I got one side of striped sashing sewed on all 48 Moda Block Head blocks.  A few are missing a point or two, but I'm not going to worry about it!  I worried enough while making those little blocks!  This one will never be show worthy anyway!

You may remember that Block 34 was a little house and was supposed to have a slice of the moon above it.  I opted then to replace the moon with a sun, which was truly pitiful applique work on my part, but I left it at that time.  Today, actually last night while in bed when I should have been asleep,  I decided to replace the sun with a flag on a flag pole.  One of the fabrics used in some of the other blocks has a little flag that is the perfect size to replace the sun.  I zig-zag stitched the flag pole, and then straight-stitched on each side, and then appliqued the little flag on top.  If I can ever find my embroidery thread, I may embroider a little rope curling down the side of the pole a way.  Until then, this will have to do.  I like it much better already!

Block 34 ,  changed again to add flag
I doubt I get to sew much for a couple of days,  but I'll get back as soon as I can.

Hope everyone has a great week with lots of quilting.

  3. You had a big weekend! I hope I grow up to be like you. :)
The house is perfect with the flag pole. There is someone that lives in our little farming community that has several flagpoles that form a little arc in their yard. They display the U.S. flag on the tallest pole in the middle, and have several international flags on the sides. They have a flood light on them at night. Your block makes me think of their yard.

  5. I love the flag and it's perfect for you! I wouldn't worry about the points either. And I don't blame you for skipping church...people always assume the worst and if you're not up to it always, I think God understands!
