Tonight I finished Moda Block Heads Block No. 48, after completing No. 46 and 47 since my last post also.

I put No 48 on top of the stack in a box, and counted them. I have something there for all 48 blocks. Certainly some of them are far from perfect, and none really are perfect. As I recall, I may need to remake a couple of them before setting them together, but I probably won't even do that. I'm calling those blocks a "temporary Finish"!
I have an idea how I'll set them together someday, and I think I may even already have the fabric.
To be really honest, I was almost sick of them before I finished them. I was reminded of the first BOM series I joined at a nearby quilt shop when I first began quilting. I swore I would never do that again! In fact, the blocks are still in a box in the closet. I think I've shared before that we were told to square the blocks up to 12", and I did! Of course, that cut off my 1/4" seam allowance, and when and if I ever put them together, all the points will be gone, of course. (Quite an expensive lesson!) These Block Heads blocks all aren't quite in that shape, but some are close!
I'm too old for that kind of pressure anymore, just trying to keep up with the weekly production. I'd really rather be working on something more of my choice and plan. However, me, myself, and I committed to myself to give it a try, and since I'm not much of a quitter, I made myself finish the blocks, and I'm glad I did. Maybe now I can get into something I'll enjoy more!
First I have a few chores around here that I must take care of for a few days. My rose garden needs my attention sorely, for one thing. The sunroom is a wreck too!
My doctor visit went well Tuesday. More physical therapy has been ordered to see if that will help my legs and feet. I go for the initial evaluation on March 26. I do hope they find something to help me to walk better.
My friend and I got our Janome machines to the shop Wednesday morning. The repairman said he would call when they are ready, probably in about a week. She really looked into the idea of getting a long arm setup, and I'll be surprised if she doesn't get one before long. She doesn't have room in her sewing room now, but it joins the double garage, and I think she plans to get her husband to close one side off and join it to her sewing room, which would be nice. She's still thinking and planning I'm sure.
When we left the repair shop, I bought her lunch at Don Pablo's Mexican Food place that was nearby. JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby both were nearby too, but can you believe we came straight home after eating? Neither of us really needed any fabric or anything else, and we both had things going on at home, so we just came straight home. Of course, when we go back next week, all that may change.
This morning I did laundry, and also made beef stew in my crock pot (first time ever). The stew cooked 7 hours, and is delicious! I've had my shower, the bed has clean sheets, and my pj's are clean too! I'm ready to hit the sack for a good night's sleep.
I may dream about what project I want to start on next. Or maybe I should just try to finish something already started. I really need to sort and refold fabric, particularly my patriotic fabrics; they are a mess after that project!
What do you suggest?

Congratulations Love. I’m sure it feels great to know that all of the blocks (or an alternate version) are finished. Now you can work on something that you really like. Glad to know that the doctor visit went well, and that your sewing machine will soon be in tip top shape. May your sweet dreams inspire you.
ReplyDeleteGood for you finishing the block heads. But I hear you about the weekly keeping up. Sometimes the littlest of things can derail a person and then what? If you have a setting idea already, I'd guess you'll come back to this project sooner than later, but don't let the blocks that aren't perfect throw you off. Lay them out, step back a few feet and squint a little. If you can't find the imperfections that way, you're golden. No one is going to look at this quilt as closely as you are and you have the unfair advantage if having made it so you know where to look! But until the quilt calls to you again, go have fun with something else!
ReplyDeleteI commend you for getting the blocks finished. I planned to do them, but never even got started. They look really good in your r/w/b fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest you do what would make you the happiest. If you need closure, finish something. If those projects don't interest you, start something that does--and maybe pass along a project you no longer care for to someone who would like to finish it. Really lifts me when I do that. :)
Hopefully the Doc can sort out your walking and give you the mobility and comfort you seek. Your BOMs have certainly been impressive. I started a BOM years ago Anne Sutton Baskets and only managed a few before I lost interest. I'm just bot good with deadlines.
ReplyDeletewow such beautiful blocks, love the colours, well done and hope you get well soon xx
ReplyDeleteFinishing the blocks is quite an accomplishment. What to do next - well I agree with Janet. Do what will make you happy! Something with no pressure - something fun! Read a book or relax. Do a little straightening in your sewing room - just 10 minutes - that will accomplish a little and later on do a little more. No pressure!
ReplyDeleteWow, finishing 48 blocks is great! It will be fun to see how you put them all together. With the red, white and blue color theme, this will be a great patriotic quilt! Have fun working on whatever comes next, something fun just for you!
