More Fun with Civil War Blocks and a Clean Quilting Closet!

I woke up Saturday morning full of vim and vigor. I dug out the new, empty storage bins and began loading them with the fabrics I had sorted on Friday. Checked on the red fabrics in vinegar water, and guess what! They were still bleeding! A friend told me to start again with vinegar AND Epsom Salts, so I did that. Guess what! One of them is still bleeding, so away it goes; can't stay here! Sorry! I think the others will be okay. I'm still soaking them in liquid Ivory tonight, but not much red is showing at all. So maybe----- they can stay here.

I re-arranged/straightened almost everything in the closet. Go-together fabrics that had just been piled together for a quilt are now in 2-gallon ziplock bags (3 of those I think). When I got everything off that shelf, I learned that four bins will fit side by side on that shelf, and they can be stacked three high! Why did it take me so long to discovere that??? I need to buy 4 more while I can get the same kind so they will stack well. I got labels on them for Civil War, Christmas, Cowboy, Patriotic, etc. All the "other and normal" fabric is organized in the chest of drawers again. Gosh, I'm just getting too organized. (I have a magnet on my fridge that says, "Organized people are just too lazy to look for things." On that basis, I will never be accused of being lazy (or organized), because I'm always looking for something! I found patterns, templates, rulers, other notions I had forgotten about --- never used them! (But I had fun spending the kids' small inheritance I guess!) Anyway, the closet looks and works much better!

I was dog tired, and beginning to have an allergy reaction or maybe a cold was grabbing me, but I just had to make this Civil War block before I closed down shop Saturday night:
Week 10 - Lincoln's Platform: (failed to take picture until today!)

I woke Sunday morning with a full-blown cold, aches and pains; felt too bad to go to church. I didn't feel like doing much all day, but I did make this block.

Week 11-London Square

This morning I slept in, warm and cozy, but by afternoon I was bored doing nothing, so I made this block:

Week 12 - Louisiana:
(Once I drove across the long bridge over the big Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana, and all I saw was green swamp land, trees, and mud. So this green fabric made me think of Louisiana swamps!)

I'm thinking about a couple of gift quilts I need to make for Christmas, but haven't quite gotten them together in my head. Maybe tomorrow I can at least get them settled and planned.

Also I have to decide on a pie for Thanksgiving; I'm sure the kids will want me to bring chocolate to their house! Then the Christmas fun begins! I may have to rent both grandsons for a few days to unload the garage into the house!

Hope all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful time with your families and friends!

  1. It sounds like your quilting closet is properly "reset". There's nothing like a good bout of organizing to get the creativity flowing again! Your civil war blocks are looking great.

  2. Sorry to learn that you aren't feeling the best and hope you are back to full strength soon. I think you have more fabrics in the stash than my local quilt shop! The CW blocks are looking great. Chocolate Pie for me please! ann :-)

  4. Your CW blocks are perefect as always. I especially like the London Square.
Maybe you could come organize my fabric now. LOL
I actually have it organized, I just seem to keep acquiring more fabric for more projects. I need to sew sew sew.
I hope you are feeling better. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Great blocks! You are too organized for me! I wish I could do it. I get started and then get side tracked on something else. We are just having one guest for thanksgiving and I bought a whole turkey breast. I'll bake one pumpkin and one apple pie. I've been doing a little house cleaning, but will not be going overboard on that! Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. I hope you're feeling better soon. At least by Thanksgiving because family holidays like that are so miserable when you're not feeling yourself. Good for you organizing, but can you find stuff now? (I usually can't find anything after I've organized!) The newest CW blocks are looking great - you'll be caught up in no time!
