Finally got my No. 11 nursing home throw finished a few minutes ago. It is 52" x 31". What's next???
I had failed to get a picture of the cute pin cushions that Ruth gave me and Jenn last Saturday. Here's mine; isn't it cute? I love it. It's filled with crushed walnut shells to help sharpen our needles. Thanks again, Ruth.
Well, I did it yesterday! I went shopping for Civil War fabrics at my favorite closest quilt shop! I had forgotten that this week is when all the big quilt show activity starts in Houston, so the store owner and a couple of helpers were gone and had taken a LOT of their fabrics! But even so, I was able to make quite a few selections as you will see. Enlarge them for a better look.
The left row has fat quarters; the middle row has half-yards, and the red is 3/4 yard; I love it! I needed some background fabrics, and I think these will work with some of the fabrics left from my Underground Railroad quilt. I tried to fold it so you can see the fabric line in the selvages, but not all pieces had it. Of course, I'll have to go shopping again when they get back from Houston, or maybe to Common Threads further away in a few days. All you see there has been washed and pressed, and I even bought an additional storage container for it and my next purchases. *grin*
You might guess that I just had to make use of a couple of those fabrics and one of my blue leftovers. Here's the result --- Week 2 block of Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilts. (This is the reason it took so long for me to complete little quilt No. 11.) Looking ahead, Week 3 block may take a lot longer!
The next two days are activity-packed! Church quilting Thursday morning; then a quilter/visitor for lunch and a short visit. Then by 4 PM I need to have my paperwork to the quilt show people if possible. I still have to prepare those entry forms tonight! If I don't get it there tomorrow, I'll have to take it Friday morning, and then get back here to play for a 3 PM funeral. (I'm not sure how I got into that last event; seems like it's happening too often!) If I make it to Saturday, maybe I can start another little nursing home quilt.
A blustery norther blew in here this evening about 5:30, and it's cold tonight. The rain missed us, and we really do need it! I'm glad I have a heavy quilt on my bed!
Hope life is going good for all of you!

WOW - you really rocked that last quilt out! Turned out fabulous like the other TEN!! That is such a great thing your little group is doing for the nursing home. Sure was GREAT to sew with you and Ruth the other day. Can't wait til after the holidays die down and we can do it again - maybe with more participants! Take care!! Jenn
ReplyDeleteYour little quilt turned out quite nicely! I'm sure someone will be very happy to receive it. I love your CW block. Of course, the sawtooth star is one of my favorite blocks. Love your fabrics. I have 2 of them: the green in the first row and the top one with the flag in the second row. Good selections!
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty, pretty! I love everything!

Such a cute pincushion! No 11 is terrific and that's a beaut swag of CW fabrics. Stay warm. ann :-)
ReplyDeleteI did the first few blocks of her cival war blocks, but then had to set them aside because of the move. I packed fabric first, and will unpack it last. Silly thinking! maybe I will have to get it all in a word document to try again!
ReplyDeleteCute little number 11. All of your little quilts are so different and all so pretty.
ReplyDeleteCute pincushion.
Love the CW star block. (I am a blue girl). Nice fabrics you have there.
Hope you find a littel sewing time.
