Quilt Show, and No. 13 Finished

Here's No. 13; same floral fabric as No. 12, but much simpler construction! In fact, it is a single floral piece, batting, and backing, no piecing at all! I free-motioned around the flowers (doesn't show well in picture), turned the backing to the front, stitched it down, and called it "done"! No. 14 will be very similar, but different colors. Then one more to go!

I was most surprised at the little nearby quilt show today; I think about 55-60 quilts were there. My big patriotic quilt - "America - Founded as A Christian Nation" - won first place in the "New-Machine Quilted" class. I don't know how many quilts were in the class, but there were several, and some had far more intricate piecing than mine. Maybe the judge was impressed with the handwritten quotations; in her comments she wrote, "The handwriting is perfect." About the machine quilting she wrote: "Simple, understated, powerful; quilting enhanced the design." While I loved reading those statements, if I had been the judge, I would have chosen another quilt. Several people stood and read each quotation; that was satisfaction enough for me!

My "Wave Salute" also got a blue ribbon for first place. I hate to admit it, but the judge had no choice; mine was the only entry in that class of wall hangings! *giggle* She did, however, compliment my curved seams and quilting (which I did myself), and she liked the bindings and corners on both quilts.

The pink/blue Kaleidoscope didn't get a ribbon, but some more nice remarks by the judge. Apparently she didn't notice that side border waving at everyone who went by! *another giggle* I hadn't noticed it either when it was on the bed at home! Oh well, I never expected to show that one anyway. (Squint your eyes and tilt your head for different views.)

Here's a few of my favorites in all the classes:
Hand-quilted, and my absolute favorite! Also "People's Choice"; gorgeous!
Close-up:
Incredible handquilting!
The cotton fabrics here looked like worn leather!

The next three were made by my friend who invited me to the show:

Thanks for all your nice comments on my recent posts, particularly about my Civil War blocks. That project has been so-o-o-o fun so far; I surely do have a lot of catching up to do, but I'm working on it!

Now I'll try to get back to a normal week after a good night sleep! This puppy is tired tonight!

Hope all of you have a restful Sunday.

  1. Congratulations on your blue ribbons!! No surprise to me at all. I would have been nice to have been there, but I had a good day catching up on some things at home. I can't believe it's almost the middle of November! Better get busy with Christmas shopping soon.

  2. Congratulations on the ribbons! You so deserve it 'cause your work is so awesome! Told you your quilts would win, LOL! Oh, and I love that pink and green quilt. Was it pieced? I can't tell from the picture.

  5. Congrats!!! I am not surprized by your wins either, but I am excited for you.
Thanks for sharing the other lovely quilts. Do you know if that viewers choice was a 'one block wonder'? Looks like the quilts from the class my friend teaches. (From a book with the same name.)

  6. To Beth, and the rest of you, the pink/green quilt IS the "One Block Wonder". The maker said she began with 7.5 yards of the one fabric, got all the little 6-piece blocks made, then moved them around on a spare bed until she got an arrangement she liked. She had a 3" x 12" strip whipped to the backing to show the original fabric; I wish I had taken a picture of that! She worked on it over a year's time!
Thanks to all of you for your sweet comments! ---"Love"
