I went to the quilt store again today! *big smile*
There's a little more than four yards there, all to go in the Civil War fabric bins. Looks like mismatches, doesn't it? But it will go with those other mismatches I bought on Nov. 1! Tonight it's all washed, pressed, and ready for use!
In addition, I found just what I wanted to finalize the backing for my Underground Railroad quilt which won't get quilted until after Christmas. You may remember that 6 + 1 yards blue backing (pictured) I found at the estate sale.
It is not enough for the UGRR quilt, so today I got the brown to go with it to make it wide enough! It will blend well with the borders on the quilt top too, without adding another prominent print to the mix. I can rest easy on that one now.
Got my show quilts delivered just before the deadline today. We'll see what Saturday brings, probably only personal satisfaction, which will be just fine with me. Again, I'm just grateful to get to share, particularly the "America" quilt.
Last night I made another Civil War block from Barbara Brackman's blog. This one is Week 8 block - Cotton Boll. (I skipped a couple because the striped fabric with little white "cotton bolls" was calling to me. *grin*)
It was really easy to make, and I'm really proud of how my stripes mitered in the center. I showed my quilt shop people today, and they actually bragged on me. The shop owner turned the block over and said she was glad to see the seams all pressed correctly. I guess I was glowing at that point! (Have you ever heard the saying: "He who patteth not his own back, his back does not get patted"? My mother would be reminding me of that about now! --- Sorry! *wink*)
At church quilting this morning, we counted and learned that when I finish my committed three more to make 15, and another lady finishes her last two, we will have the 75 little quilts! Then when the labels come in, we have to sew those on! That's shouldn't take too long; they are tiny, like a label in the neck of a sweater! I hope to finish No. 13 tomorrow; same fabrics as No. 12, but much simpler!
I'm looking forward to the week-end; hope you are too!
One more thing: Thanks to all our Veterans who have kept our nation free! Let's all honor them tomorrow; fly your flags too!

It's so much fun getting new fabric! I just love yours and your block is perfect! You are almost done with the donation quilts! That will be a relief, won't it! But for a good cause.
ReplyDeleteThat may not look like a really coordinated batch of fabrics, but since I know where it's going it looks fantastic! The block looks great - I'm glad the gals at your quilt shop recognised it. And if they praised it, maybe you'll come home from the quilt show with a few ribbons! (I hope you do!) Will there be a showing of the quilts when your church project is done? It would be fun to see what everyone else made, too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't fabric shopping fun! I love your choices, now to see how you use them! I just went fabric shopping, too. I had such a good time! Your CW block looks great and how nice that the people at your quilt shop were so nice to recognise your work. I hope your quilts do well in the show and you will have lots of pictures to show us. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could stay home all day and quilt! I'm green with envy! Have a great weekend! I'm hoping to get in front of the sewing machine this weekend too. Jenn
ReplyDeleteI shopped yesterday. LOL. On Tuesday most of the members of the Bee I belong to are going on a mini shop hop (just 2 stores but they are about 1 1/2 hrs away).
ReplyDeleteYou selected beautiful fabrics. Your block is perfect! Glad it was noticed. ( It makes you feel good doesn't it)? And in my humble opinion, you deserve the 'notice' cause your work is excellent.
I salute the Veterans too.
A big splurge at the quilt shop is just what the doctor *should* order. Lifts the spirits and lowers the bank balance keeping the world in harmony. Fantastic result on the CW quilt block. I'm terrified of stripes (ever since my first quilt experience). You also deserve a pat on the back for all those church quilts - a fantastic effort! ann :-)
ReplyDeleteThe center of your Civil War block is just perfect! Congrats on almost finishing your little quilts. They are all beautiful. I believe you will walk away with the grand prize at your quilt show! Love ya!
